FRIDAYS From 24 February until 30 March
10am to 12 noon & 12.30-2.30pm
Selecting plants for the ornamental garden (Level 2)
A chance to learn in a friendly, working environment, with plenty opportunity to practise new skills. This course is ideal for people who have been unemployed for some time and/ or are looking for a new direction
Led by professional horticulturist and teacher Ric Staines
Course aims: To give an understanding of the range, type and uses of ornamental plants in a garden context.
Topics will include:
The range of ornamental plants available to the gardener - cut flowers, bedding and herbaceous and perennial plantings. The uses and requirements of these plants as part of a garden display. Plant selection. Plants to encourage wildlife and biodiversity.
Assessment based on practical work and written/picture log/diary
Some work will be carried out on alternative local sites
Tools and materials are provided – but please bring note book and writing materials. Please wear outdoor clothes appropriate for the weather and sturdy boots, preferably steel toe-capped (we have boots to lend). We can provide hot drinks, but please bring a packed lunch.
